Ayer me llegó por correo electrónico este mensaje. Dejo el inglés original e incluyo una traducción debajo. Como estamos en Navidad y es época de hacer propósitos nobles e intentar mantenerlos no solo en Navidad sino mucho más allá, me ha parecido muy apropiado incluirlo en mi blog a modo de felicitación. Con mis mejores deseos.

A Holy man was having a conversation with the Lord one day and said, 'Lord, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like.'
Un día un hombre piadoso mantenía una conversación con Dios y le decía "Señor, me gustaría saber cómo son el Cielo y el Infierno"

The Lord led the holy man to two doors.
El Señor le condujo hasta dos puertas.

He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in.
Abrió una de las puertas y el hombre miró dentro.

In the middle of the room was a large round table.
En medio de la habitación había una gran mesa redonda.

In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew,

Parecían famélicos. Tenían en las manos unas cucharas con largos mangos sujetos a sus brazos, y cada uno de ellos podía alcanzar dentro de la olla y coger una cucharada.

But because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths.
Pero como el mango de la cuchara era más largo que sus brazos no podían meter la cuchara en su boca.

The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering.
El hombre piadoso se extremeció por la visión de esa miseria y sufrimiento.

The Lord said, 'You have seen Hell. They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one.
El Señor dijo: "Acabas de ver el Infierno. Entonces, fueron a la habitacion de al lado y abríó la puerta. Era exactamente igual que la primera."

There was the large round table with the large pot of stew which made the holy man's mouth water.
Había una gran mesa redonda con una olla de potaje que hacía que al hombre se le hiciera la boca agua.

The people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but here the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking.
Las personas tenían las mismas cucharas largas, pero aquí estaban bien nutridas, rollizas, riendo y hablando.

The holy man said, 'I don't understand.
El hombre piadoso dijo: "No lo entiendo"

'It is simple,' said the Lord. 'It requires but one skill.
"Es muy sencillo", dijo el Señor. "Se requiere solo una virtud"

You see, they have learned to feed each other.
"Verás, han aprendido a alimentarse unos a otros"

The greedy think only of themselves.'
"Los codiciosos piensan solo en ellos mismos"

When Jesus died on the cross, he was thinking of you.
